Exciting Optional Tours and Events!

We have created an outstanding optional tour program for your guests in Vancouver at this year’s meeting and you’ll be helping to raise funds for the Foundation of the AAGL. This year’s events will give you a small sampling so you can get to know more about Vancouver and the surrounding metro region. From colorful downtown neighborhoods, to culturally diverse suburbs and mountainside districts, there’s plenty to explore either with the group, or on your own. Peruse the AAGL tour exclusive offerings and sign up in advance. Tours are subject to cancellation if minimums are not met.   Please note, all prices listed are in USD and should be purchased during the registration process.

Event: Presidential Gala – Casino Royale

Join us as at this year’s Gala, a truly special, one of a kind FUNdraiser. The odds will be in your favor when you arrive for this James Bond/Casino Royale themed party. Enjoy an evening of gambling, glitz, and glamour as we raise money for the Foundation of the AAGL. Activities for the evening include casino games, a full bar (3 drink tickets included) and appetizers, professional photos and photo booth, live music and a DJ for us to dance the night away. Attire: “Casino Royale” styling/Black Tie/Formal.

10:00amArrive in Whistler Village and enjoy lunch on own at many restaurant options with ample time for your own exploration. Whistler Village is located at the base of North America’s biggest ski resort or mountain bike park. No matter the season, it’s the heart of Whistler, British Columbia, and it’s bustling with people looking to enjoy the area’s vibrant mountain culture. Built around a pedestrian street called the Village Stroll, Whistler Village is bookended by a pair of public squares. The Olympic rings still stand in Olympic Plaza, which lies on the opposite end of the village, where medal ceremonies for all Whistler-based sports during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics took place. Between the two plazas, patio restaurants and cafes are mixed intermittently with shops selling the latest fashions in both haute couture and high mountain culture.

11:30amDrop off at Granville Island where we will meet our personal Granville Foodie Guide! Give your Vancouver trip a twist with a 2-hour walking tour of the vibrant Granville Island Public Market. AAGL guests will head to the island and get ready to learn about Vancouver’s eclectic food culture, browse diverse products and meet local artisans and vendors. We will taste regional foods featuring fine artisan cheeses and unique cured meats which may include Elk, Bison or Duck. Enjoy local wine and fresh baked goods such as organic sourdough bread made with local cranberries and golden flaxseed. Get a dose of culinary education as you explore, sample and get insider tips on the area’s best eateries from our expert guide. We will enjoy 20 tastings of regional foods such as aged cheese, BC wine, truffle salami, the best honey dipped doughnuts in town and a twist on Fish and Chips with Arctic Char from the Yukon, Learn the history about the diverse food vendors. Experience a piece of Vancouver life and receive inside tips about the market’s best spots. It’s no wonder this tour has been named a Canadian Signature Experience by the Canadian Tourism Commission. This Foodie tour is like a progressive meal – in this case, a late breakfast. You’ll have a series of signature items from Granville Island and the Public Market that add up to a full meal. 9:00amPickup from the Vancouver Convention Centre, drive over Lions Gate Bridge to the North Shore.
10:00amVisit Capilano Suspension Bridge (1.5 hour stop), entrance fee included. Vancouver’s iconic Capilano Suspension Bridge, hanging 450 feet (137m) across and 230 feet (70m) above Capilano River. The area offers more than just the bridge. It’s surrounding 27 acres celebrate nature, history and culture in unique and thrilling ways. No more so than with the newest attraction, Cliffwalk. The Cliffwalk hangs for 213m (700ft) and reaches 91m (300ft) high, hugging the granite cliffside and offering a panoramic view of the thriving rainforest and canyon far below. On Treetops Adventure venture from one magnificent old growth Douglas-fir to another on a series of seven elevated suspension bridges, reaching as high as 110 feet (33m), for a squirrel’s eye view of the forest. Guides, signage and interactive exhibits throughout the park help you in your understanding of rainforest ecosystems and their sustainability.
12:00pmVisit Grouse Mountain (2.5 hour stop) aerial tram ride and lunch in a private room overlooking the mountain! The summit of Grouse Mountain features some of the best views in all of British Columbia—from Vancouver’s downtown towers to the green expanse of Stanley Park and the entirety of Fraser Valley. On this amazing outdoor tour, you will also enjoy a ride on one of the longest aerial trams in North America Visitors to enjoy Vancouver’s panoramic alpine vistas. After the group arrives atop Grouse Mountain, you will be greeted with a warm cup of hot chocolate served in our private room overlooking the mountain. A delicious buffet lunch will be served and after lunch guests will be treated to a special talk by our Grouse Mountain guide who will introduce you to the Mountain’s resident Barn Owl – Cleo. Make sure to bring your camera! After lunch guests can enjoy time atop the mountain, visit the alpine shops for that special one of a kind gift or rent skates to go ice skating or check out an adventure documentary in the high definition theater. There’s something for everyone on this special tour!

10:00amPickup from the Vancouver Convention Centre Tour through Stanley Park (including scenic stops at the Totem Poles, Brockton Point & Prospect Point - approximately 20 minutes each). Bring your camera, you’ll want to get photos of these great spots. Vancouver’s Stanley Park enjoys a stellar natural setting, surrounded on three sides by the Pacific Ocean and laid out against the backdrop of the snow-capped North Shore Mountains. At nearly 1,000 acres (405 hectares) in size, it’s a mix of coastal red-cedar forest, lakes and lagoons, and scenic meadows.
12:00pmLunch at the Stanley Park Teahouse Restaurant Guests will enjoy a delicious lunch at the beautiful Stanley Park Teahouse where stunning views will relax you as you network with AAGL guests and friends.
1:30pmDepart Stanley Park and tour through English Bay The tour continues through English Bay, Yaletown, False Creek, and a quick stop at the infamous, Granville Island Market. You’ll continue through Gastown, Chinatown, Vancouver Harbour and the Olympic Cauldron.

Tour Cancellation Policy

Tour cancellations must be submitted in writing and received on or before October 7, 2019, less a $40 cancellation fee.  Refunds cannot be granted after this date due to contractual obligations. Email to: registrations@aagl.org.
